This class helps to develop positive attitudes, safe practices and good swimming habits. Children will learn to enter and exit the pool using steps or side, blow bubbles through mouth and nose, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front and back glides and floats, recovery to a vertical position, rolls front/back and back/front, treading water, basic swim strokes and learning how to stay safe including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help.
Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
This class introduces children to fundamental skills. Participants learn how to enter the water by stepping or jumping from the side, open eyes and pick up a submerged object, roll over from front to back & back to front, exist water using ladder or side, float on front and back, tread water using arm and leg movements, move in the water while wearing a life jacket, submerge entire head, perform front and back glide, and swim on front and back using combined strokes. Learn how to stay safe including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help. Learn how to look carefully before entering the water. Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation.
Level 3 – Stroke Development
This class builds on the skills in level 2 through additional guided practices. Level 3 participants will learn how to jump into deep water from the side, bob with the head fully submerged, perform a survival float, dive from kneeling or standing position, use rotary breathing in horizontal position, change from horizontal to vertical position on front and back, submerge and retrieve an object, perform front and back glide, flutter, scissor, dolphin and breaststroke kicks on front, perform front and elementary back crawl and perform a non swimming assist.
Level 4 – Stroke Improvement
The purpose of this course is to develop confidence in the skills learned and improve other aquatic skills. Level 4 participants will learn how to perform shallow dives from compact and stride positions, and perform open turns on front and back using any stroke. Also participants will perform the following – front and back crawl, swim on side with scissors like kick, breaststroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke. Learn how to perform a nonswimming assist. Learn about recreational water illnesses and to how to prevent them.
Level 5 – Stroke Refinement
Participants will increase endurance swimming using the front and back crawl and perfect the breaststroke and sidestroke, and develop swimming turns. They will also learn how to tread water with two different kicks. Also to perform the following – standing dive, pike surface dive, butterfly, shallow dive, glide two body lengths and begin any front stroke, front flip turn, breaststroke, backstroke flip turn, elementary backstroke, tuck surface dive, front and backstroke, sidestroke. Learn how to call for help and the importance of knowing first aid and CPR. Learn basic safety guidelines for participating in aquatic activities at waterparks.
Level 6
The purpose of this course is so students swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with a "menu" option that focus on preparing students to participate in more advance courses.
